How to Overcome Failure
Believe it or not, failure as much as it hurts, is an extremely important part of growing a business. Without failure we’d be less capable of compassion, empathy, kindness, and great achievement. We would be less likely to set higher goals. It’s through failure that we learn the most important lessons that life could teach us.
Failure is often seen as a step backward however it’s an excellent step towards success. We never learn to move out of our comfort zone if we don’t overcome our fear of failure and moving out of our comfort zone is the key to growing. When in your comfort zone, your brain doesn’t want anything to change. So how do you expect to get different results, doing the same thing?
Getting out of your comfort zone creates just enough good stress to ramp up your focus, creativity, pace, and drive. It helps you respond to life stress when unexpected things happen as you are ready for whatever is next.
We can learn many lessons from failing but here are the most important ones you need to remember,
You don’t always have to be right.
Having to be right all the time kills your curiosity and doesn’t allow you to have a healthy exchange of dialogue with others.
A little failure will never stop the truly determined.
As David Brinkley once said, “A successful man is one who can lay a firm foundation with the bricks that others throw at him.”
Failures always come before success.
As humans it takes us so much energy and time for people to have to be right and try to win all the time. Remember, where there is no struggle, there is no strength.
You don’t know what you’re capable of until you try.
Until you try, of course you do not know what you can do. In order to develop new skills and grow as a person we must come out of the “comfort zone” and try new things. I have never heard of a person stumbling on something sitting down..
So how can you accept when you fail?
It will hurt and you will feel down, there is no doubt about that! Don’t try to push it away by distracting yourself or by trying to push the responsibility onto the rest of the business. If you ignore the stress and upset, those emotions will come back at unexpected times later on and could essentially break the business. Just because you failed once, doesn’t mean that you’ll fail the next time. Failing is a step towards reaching the top and you should see it more as valuable feedback and something that you can use to improve.
